Hammam Delights
A culinary and sensory experience that takes you back to the days of the Caliphate.
The story of the ambassador who succumbed to the delights of Córdoba
A thousand years ago, a monk arrived in Córdoba bearing an insulting letter from his emperor directed at Islam.
Everyone expected a declaration of war in response, but what happened was quite different.
The Caliph, rather than punishing him, decided to ‘attack’ the messenger with hospitality.
A punishment so pleasant that it would change the course of history (and the monk’s life).
A punishment that lasted a thousand days, and began with an Arab bath:
Before being received, protocol required the guest to visit the Hammam.
It was not just about hygiene; it was a way of saying:
“Leave your prejudices and your weariness behind; enter our culture clean and renewed.”
Imagine the German monk, accustomed to the cold and austerity, entering a steam room, surrounded by the scents of orange blossom and essential oils.
But that was only the first step.
Once purified, he was treated to delicacies unknown in Europe: spiced lamb, aubergines (brought by the Arabs), nuts, honey and dates.
It is said that the sophistication of the Cordoban court was such that Juan de Gorze spent three years in the city and ended up fascinated by the Caliphate’s way of life.
Today you can surrender to the pleasures of Córdoba in an experience designed to help you disconnect from the world.
What’s included?
The experience is divided into two parts, just like the monk’s ‘punishment’:
I. The Purification Ceremony (At Hammam Al Ándalus)
Your journey begins as you step through the threshold of the Hammam. There, time stands still.
The Water Ritual: You will move through baths of varying temperatures beneath an architecture of arches and skylights that filter the light of the sun (or the stars).
MIMMA30 Treatment: A 30-minute relaxing massage with essential oils that will wash away any trace of 21st-century stress.
Hammam Garden Tea: A moment of liquid hospitality to hydrate the body as you prepare for the next step.
II. The Reception (at Bodegas Mezquita)
Now that you’ve recharged your batteries and your senses are awakened, it’s time to celebrate.
A stroll through the Jewish Quarter: After collecting your invitation from the Hammam reception, you’ll walk (or float) just a few metres along the whitewashed streets of Córdoba until you reach our restaurant.
Today’s Menu: We’ll welcome you with a full tasting menu (lunch or dinner) designed to show you why Al-Ándalus’s cuisine remains legendary.
From our famous aubergines with honey to stews that would have been worthy of the finest court chefs.
(To be honest, not even the Caliph could have dreamed of eating so well a thousand years ago.)

The world can wait
It is said that the monk spent three thousand days in Córdoba, captivated by the lifestyle and the pleasures that could only be enjoyed there.
Perhaps three thousand days is too long; perhaps a single day isn’t enough
